Way back in March of 2025, the London Tourney Series brought mimicry to Dungeons_Below_London. Besides being a great time for Dungeon Bowl, the organizers brought in custom maps and some fun rules from dungeons past that you might like to try!
Three Ball Problem
This event used a three ball/seven chest rule, meaning that of the 6 regular chests three contain balls. This rule goes way back to the early days of Dungeonbowl and is a great way to speed up the game and increase the tension. The twist is the seventh chest, which contains a mimic!
The mimic has its own rules, explained in the linked document, and breathes some fresh air on both the chest mechanics and movement decisions at the player level.
Maps & That
One of the other wonderful details used in this even is a set of four custom maps. They tell a cohesive story, coinciding to each round of the tournament.
I reached out to the organizer, who told me that he uses the program Inkarnate to draw the maps and bases them around the core Dungeon Bowl tile shapes. He also said that the Bonehead Podcast's own Dungeon Bowl created a spark of inspiration.
For me, custom maps are such a huge draw of Dungeon Bowl. There are a wealth of dungeon tiles out there ready to print and play, but expressing yourself and bringing your vision to life then playing it out is good fun.
